For many, learning a new language is not easy.
Memorizing, an unfamiliar vocabulary, correct pronunciations, and grammatical rules can be an exhausting physical and mental exercise.
Teachers need to be patient and understand that this process is different for each student; not all language teachers are.
The best topics to start with when learning a new language are greetings, numbers, basic directions, places such as hospitals or police stations, basic emotions, currency, and weather. Gradually students can learn short and then more complex sentences.
However, the only practical way to not forget that knowledge is to practice with a speaker in that specific language.
AI, Physical Robots, and Young Learners
Many apps and videos are available to routinely practice, but something that has gone overlooked is physical yet affordable robots. This is what I’m passionate about, especially for young learners.
An artificial intelligence-powered robot for language learning not only saves thousands of dollars but also allows children to practice, learn, and repeat at any time, anywhere with confidence.
Our robot is named Roybi, and it provides a disruptive and intuitive way of learning languages. While language is the primary focus, Roybi is also great for STEM and many other subjects.
Using a robot also reduces screen time, vital for kids today.
Promoting active learning, evaluations, and iterative feedback
The technology of Roybi Robot promotes an active method of teaching languages rather than a passive one.
It allows learners to practice new languages through fun and play.
It provides regular monitoring and evaluation, so it evolves with learners.
Students interact with the robot, and it interacts back, improving, just like the student, constantly.
Roybi detects pronunciation, as well as right or wrong answers. It generates AI reports for learners, but even for teachers who can use it to track progress, pronunciation, and level of accuracy.
Promoting positive habits
While learning a new language is important and exciting, it’s not always feasible to keep up retention or to travel to best immerse oneself.
This can also be especially difficult for younger students.
There are apps, courses, and videos out there to augment language teachers and tutors, but the physical realm has gone overlooked.
In this day and age, when travel is significantly hampered, the need for reducing screen time and promoting positive study-from-home habits is at an all-time high.
My passion is bringing this ethos to language learning, STEM, and all subjects pertinent to young learners through sustainable and effective means.
